MUSE ME

a series of consecutive dance/music performances – each one of the 7 songs of the collected work – Cabaret D


Sharing across continents, bridged by live broadcast of a performance created beyond boundaries, Muse Me is a model of cosmic spiritual connectedness and communal conciousness : asking how does one dance, and how is music generated, mused? ..

When dancing, a time forray into the future occurs. The dancer invariably dances to the future, hearing beyond time, what will come next. Will experiment with creating an energy flow beyond spatial boundaries, a collaboration to create, compose, perform and dance. A musical score of a prerecorded beat with fluidity will serve as a guide to a relationship of creating together without heirarchies, parallel and entertwined like dna - A memorial of life and birth.


Each performance is enacted through connecting a dance box , located each time in a new neighbourhood, in the public space, to an elsewhere located music setting through the internet, whilst audiences witness the performance in a third location. A 3m x 3m dance box will move through the city for new performance settings each month, starting with Mckibbin Street in Brooklyn, followed by other parts of the city ( Washington Square, Tompkinson Square, and Union Square are possible locations for the next performances )



The first of the MUSE ME series begins at 15pm on Saturday 25th July in Mckibbin Street, Bushwick , during a weekend block party / Art Fair, organized by the community of 700 artists living in Mckibben Lofts.

Mckibbin Street is located in a predominatly Hispanic neighbourhood bordering between housing projects and Williamsburg Industrial Park, where a recent ‘creative gentrification’ of the neighbourhood is creating a tension between the artists and the local inhabitants.

An event which can promote understanding through sharing in the community is one of this weekends wishes. Audience are invited to participate and share food whilst viewing / hearing the performance as it is enacted / created real time.

"SOL/SUN" - An invocation installation, was realized at the Chelsea Art Museum Midsummer Solstice Celebration on the 20.th of june 2009, as a one-nite only real time artwork resulting of a collaboration between Danish Triangle Project artists Claus Ankersen and Mille Kalsmose. The work installation is an audio-visual human-projector embodiment of solar power and solar worship, covering aspects of historical, mythic, magical and esoteric character, and linking human and solar existence, hope and rebirth into a potent, powerful, evocative and spellbinding whole.

Primus Erotica is a celebration of the forces of love and sexuality represented by two major gods Ishtar and Dionysus. Before Christianity, there were temples and rites for these matters, but Christianity transformed the gods into witches with major consequences for our emotional life. Playing with fire is a natural ingredient in all spiritual rites and has always been considered a dangerous act.

Gently peel apples, preferably in one long peel, until naked. remove
the core and cut the apples in half, horizontally so that a star

Tristan Perich was together with Katie Shima recently in Copenhagen (DK) and Malmö (SWE) to perform. In Malmö as part of the "Overhead Festival" produced by Christopher Nelson and in Copenhagen as part of "Festival of Endless Gratitude" produced by Hurraaaa (fomer Bottega Areté). On the 22nd of June he will perform at Scandinavian House in New York as part of The Triangle Project PART 6.

Resultatet, sygdomsperioder for begge, den ene slemmere end den anden, men ikke desto mindre opstod et samarbejde og en fælles interesse om oplevelser og kunst i naturen..".

20:12 IN COPENHAGEN'S MEATPACKING DISTRICT


20:12 is a projects space in northwest corner of Copenhagen's Meatpacking
District. It is located above the nightclub Kødboderne 18 (Meat Huts 18) in what used to be a restaurant school educating chefs to cook food.
It will open on Thursday the 19th 2009 at 12 minutes past 8pm.
There will be an art exhibition, musical performances along with spoken word and a party to celebrate and talk about the plans for the space in 2009 & 2010.

ISLAK KÖPEK (WET DOG)


Islak Köpek’s original lineup of Korhan Erel (computer, electronics, melodica), Şevket Akıncı (electric and acoustic guitars), Volkan Terzioğlu (tenor saxophone) and Volkan Ergen (percussion, computer processing) had their first performance in the summer of 2005. Following a series of performances at Galataperform and Jazz Cafe, Dirk Stromberg (electric guitar) and Robert Reigle (tenor saxophone) joined the band in January 2006. The six-piece band played regular gigs at Galataperform as well as other venues and also did some recordings, some of which released as their first album at the end of 2008.

Volkan Ergen left in the summer of 2006 to pursue other musical interests. The five-piece band played at Transit Improvisation Days with Le Quan Ninh and Kirstie Simpson, and Yanaël Plummet in June 2006, followed by a sold-out concert at the Akbank Jazz Festival in September 2006. Dirk Stromberg left the band because of teaching opportunities in Vietnam in 2007.

The remaining four members continued playing venues and making recordings, particularly with musicians such as Richard Nunns, Christian Asplund, Olivier Germain-Noureux throughout 2007 and 2008. They performed at the Body-Process festival A.M.B.E.R. and the second Transit Festival. The band also performed and continues to do so with guest improvisors from the flourishing Turkish scene, such as Umut Caglar (proprietor of the first Turkish free jazz/improv online label www.rekonstrukt.com), Florent Merlet, Alex Toisoul, Jose Blasco, and David Brosset, all members of the Turkey-based French improv band Have You Seen My Bird.

2008 saw the joining of Dilek Acay on violin, who has been a steady member until her departure for studies in Germany end of March 2009. Kevin Davis on cello is a permanent member as of February 2009.

Islak Köpek have been doing a show on free improvisation and free jazz on Açık Radyo since May 2006, where they interviewed musicians such as Christian Asplund, Richard Nunns, Chris Cutler, and Kevin Davis. The band members performed in different combinations, including other artists in Turkey, the Netherlands, Romania, France, Belgium, Poland, Austria and Germany.

The Turkish name "Islak Köpek" means wet dog and was also part of the projects first installation in Istanbul 2007 during the 10th Istanbul Biennial and performed inside The Hall.

Mille Kalsmose - Outroperspective

Mille Kalsmose har udstillet på kunstmuseer, kunsthaller og gallerier i Istanbul, New York, Barcelona, Budapest, Kanagawa i Japan, og blot i år har man kunne opleve hendes værker i Berlin, New York, Eivissa og Bratislava.
Det går med andre ord rigtig stærkt for den unge og talentfulde kunstner på den internationale kunstscene. Nu har Mille Kalsmose for første gang et solo show herhjemme, hvor hun kan opleves med udstillingen Outrospective i Wonderland Art Space.


Mille had the part of "Angel" in the film "Red's Pyramid" as part of The Triangle Project Part 3 in New York. Part of the "Outroperspective" project was installed at the Karsi Sanat exhibition in Istanbul called "Fill in Blank Space". She also exhibited her daring to fly installation (above photo) at the "Grounded - Was Man Meant to Fly Exhibition" show at ABC No Rio.

She actually mentions The Triangle Project and the problems we had getting our Turkish artists to Denmark back in April 2007.

Mener Kulturministeren, at Danmark lever op til sine UNESCO-forpligtigelser?

Skriftlig Begrundelse

Danmark har ratificeret »UNESCO's konvention om beskyttelse og fremme af de kulturelle udtryksformens mangfoldighed«. På trods heraf lyder det fra flere danske koncertarrangører, at reglerne for visum til ikkeeuropæiske kunstnere er så rigide og bureaukratiske, at man i flere tilfælde har måttet aflyse koncerter, fordi det har været umuligt at få et visum til de internationale kunstnere.


Yildiz Akdogan (S):

"Tak til kulturministeren. Jeg vil egentlig gerne starte med at remse to sager op, for muligvis mener kulturministeren, at vi lever op til vores forpligtelser i UNESCO-konventionen, men jeg kan så henvise til Kulturnyt fra den 25. april i år, hvoraf det fremgår, at billedkunstneren Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen havde inviteret en række kunstnere fra bl.a. Tyrkiet, hvor hensigten var at lave et såkaldt Triangle Project med besøg i henholdsvis New York, Istanbul og København, og der har Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen udtrykt bemærkninger om, at det har været enormt svært på grund af visumreglerne. Jeg citerer ham ordret: Vi fik lige lov til at være her og rejse hurtigt tilbage igen. Og det er altså et projekt, som varer over 3 år. Det synes jeg er lidt betænkeligt. Plus det at en af kunstnerne ikke fik lov til at komme herop, på grund af at han både var kunstner, altså musiker, og studerende. Det kan man så også tænke over.

Det andet eksempel, jeg vil tage op, er, at Peter Hvalkof, som er arrangør af verdensmusik for Roskilde Festival (og booker på GLOBAL CPH), siger, at man allerede i udvalgsprocessen faktisk tænker over, om det kan betale sig både sagsmæssigt og proceduremæssigt at få bestemte kunstnere fra bestemte lande herop, og det er egentlig meget bekymrende, når man tænker på, at man allerede i den her planlægningsfase skal tænke over, om det kan betale sig, fordi der er den risiko, at koncerterne kan gå hen og blive aflyst på grund af visumreglerne.

Som ministeren også korrekt sagde, så er der nedsat den her ekspertgruppe i EU-regi, som vil kigge på det, men det er først til december, der skal kigges på det. Nu er vi i sommerperioden på vej mod festivalarrangementer og byfester, og trods ministerens begrundelse med, at det hører under integrationsministeren, vil jeg egentlig gerne spørge: Overholder vi virkelig UNESCO-konventionen? Det er kun to eksempler, jeg har nævnt, der er mange flere."

GALLERI SPLENDID - A NEW GALLERY IN ISTANBUL 2008

Curated by Derya Demir (who is also part of The Triangle Project)and Leyla Gediz, The Bitch Is Sleeping, an exhibition covering all spheres and types of fetishism, takes place at various fetishistic landmarks of İstiklal Caddesi and also at Karşı Sanat and Gallery Splendid from November 19 to December 19.

The idea for the exhibition derived from the conference focusing on interdisciplinary research on fetishism titled "Substitute Lack!/Accept No Substitutes!" organized by ./independent scholars from 26 to 28 November. (www.independentscholars.org) The appearance of fetishism in an academic context led to the idea of organizing a parallel exhibition, engendering a fresh movement across the Istanbul art scene.

Based at Karşı Sanat (where The Triangle Project Part 4 also exhibited) and Gallery Splendid, the stops of the exhibition include almost all the historical and seductive shops along İstiklal Caddesi. The Bitch is Sleeping is also the opening exhibition of Gallery Splendid founded by Leyla Gediz and Derya Demir.



The nightclub Dogzstar will feature Monday daytime screenings of films related to the subject: The exhibition touches upon sexual fetishism in (above)  Bruce LaBruce's "No skin of my ass" and Brice Dellsperger's "Body Double X", both films where body parts are the focus of fetishism. Richard Van Loot's colourful video "Rate Allegorique No.1" will be shown between the two films.



The work of three artists will be presented at Gallery Splendid. Strands of "hair" Elçin Poyraz has delivered from the source of fetishism, (above, who is also part of The Triangle Project)) Kaan Karacehennem's series of photographs of homosexuals hiding their faces and Barış Doğrusöz's videos titled "7 ways to fake a perfect skin", each an animated canvas, are the first works to be exhibited at the magnificent Gallery Splendid.

Conceptual framework of the İstanbul Biennial 2009



The 11th International Istanbul Biennial's conceptual framework has been announced by the Biennial curators WHW (What, How & for Whom) at the Biennial press conference.
The 11th International Istanbul Biennial will take place between 12 September-8 November 2009 and takes its title, "What Keeps Mankind Alive?" from the closing song of the second act of Bertolt Brecht's The Threepenny Opera, written 80 years ago.

According to WHW, the question "What Keeps Mankind Alive?" seems to be more urgent and topical than when it was first posed by Brecht in 1928. The conceptual framework of the 11th International Istanbul Biennial "What Keeps Mankind Alive?" will serve as a trigger, as well as a certain script for the exhibition, allowing us and the artists to pose questions of economic and social urgency today.

The curators of the 11th International Istanbul Biennial What, How & for Whom / WHW is made up of four women: Ana Devic, Natasa Ilic, Sabina Sabolovic and Ivet Curlin, who studied Art History and Comparative Literature in the University of Zagreb. WHW was formed in 1999; based in Zagreb, Croatia, and since 2003 has been directing the program of Gallery Nova -non-profit, city-owned gallery in Zagreb. Orkestar Baxtalo

Orkestar Baxtalo er københavner-sigøjnere, en samling virtuoser, taskenspillere, gøglere, skrighalse, klaverstemmere og luksusbumser. Bandet blev samlet i starten af 2008, og har turneret i Rumænien og spillet koncerter i Sverige og Tyskland. Familien består af erfarne folk fra Rusty Båthorns, Los Perros Verde, Nitterne, Klepti klepti - fra cirkusteltene, carbaretscenerne og fra den Københavnske underverden. Baxtalo har udgivet en EP hvorfra sangen Manua Cu Voca er nomineret til Årets World Track 2008.

Orkestar Baxtal spillede til støttefesten for The Triangle Project på
Islandsbrygge den 4. september 2008 og havde en del af sine medlemmer med i Istanbul for PART 4.

A strong fascination for world music has led Jonas Stampe to travel a lot, especially in India, Pakistan and Morocco. In ’98 he spend one year in India as a sitar-student under Ravi Shankar, and in ’99 he was a part of Ravi Shankars live-group on a tour in the UK.

Gazi Peker is a Kurd from Turkey living in Denmark, being the first Kurdish/Turkish/Danish artist playing electronic music. In early 2008 he released his debut CD named "Kismet". The music is in the electronica / ambient genre with an ethnic dimension.

Kismet is produced as a soundtrack album for a screen play by the same name. It’s a one-man project, involving guest musicians such as Sivan Perwer, John Villadsen, Aynur Peker, Sven Pors, Tara P. Kramtøft and others.

Gazi Peker is today one of Denmark's busiest DJ's playing ethnic and lounge music.

Hülya Ucar - A Triangle Project Artist

I'm a Turkish woman, who was born and brought up in
Denmark. This gives me a double perspective, hereby I
don´t mean that everyone with a bi-cultural background
necesarely have the thoughts and perspectives that I have.
I know that I am very special in many ways and also very sensitive.

Sometimes I write short stories and poems.
Poems in Danish and short stories in Turkish.
I'm also in a film association club, called World
Cinema DK. Here we choose film from around the world to show Danes different cultures in order to help the integration of Danes and ethnic minorities.


What I really want to do with my art is to create
political and social awareness. Human rights and ethnic rights in
a Western European multicultural setting.

Visuals and innocuous pranks can take you faraway places.
VJ Polly and Ester (ak. Mai Sydendal and Tina Helen) heading for Istanbul.

Exclusive for the Triangle project (part 4) in Istanbul we have created a limited edition of mixtapes - 22 to be exact! The tapes are based on material from Danish arties like Gustav Winckler, Keld Heick, Johnny Reimar, Gitte Hænning, Anne Grete and many more. Cut into pieces and randomly mixed together the tapes create a mosaic of what some would characterise "the Danish music-treasure". The tapes includes tunes like "Rocken gav mig alt" (Rock music gave me everything), "Spil Whist igen" (Play Whist again), "Jeg gir mit humør en gang lak" (I'll apply some vanish to my mood), "Hils fra mig derhjemme" (Say hello from me at home) and "Lidt go' musik gør alle glade" (A little music makes everybody happy). We will hand out the tapes at the exhibition closing date. Don't miss!
