"Public Address" begins on Friday
The second cluster of events of the 13th Istanbul Biennial Public Programme Public Alchemy continues with "Public Address" on March 22 and 23.
The public programme events aim to examine the ways in which publicness can be reclaimed as an artistic and political tool in the context of global financial imperialism and local social fractures. The public programme, "Public Alchemy", is organised under the co-curatorship of Fulya Erdemci and Dr. Andrea Phillips.
"Public Address"
The second event of the public programme, "Public Adress", will explore if it is possible to find and sustain spaces of freedom of expression in the context of a neo-liberalised public domain while questioning the relation between public speech and private power.
Hosted by Fırat Demir, Burak Fidan, Eren Erdem, Cevdet Erek, Adbusters Media Foundation, Robert Sember, Dan Hind, and Lina Ben Mhenni
"Public Address" will seek answers to the following questions:
> How are we addressed as citizens?
> What registers of address are used by politicians, professors and publishers to speak to us;
what form does such address take and in which way does it flow? > Do so-called new media technologies offer alternative devices of communication or do they sustain existent hierarchiest of address, suggesting radical distribution but in fact maintaining power in the hands of the technologically enabled? "Public Address" will take place on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at Istanbul Technical University, Maçka Campus, C101 Conference Hall.
